Gunnar Otte has been a professor of sociology at JGU Mainz since 2014. He earned his doctorate from the University of Mannheim in 2003. He was a research and teaching fellow at the University of Mannheim, University of Leipzig, Free University of Berlin and University of Zürich from 1998 to 2011 and a professor of social research methods at Philipps-University Marburg from 2011 to 2014. His areas of specialization include social stratification and social inequality, sociology of culture, sociology of art, survey methodology, and analytical-empirical sociology. He is head of the panel study “Cultural Education and Cultural Participation in Germany“, which has been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since 2016. It is the largest study to date on this topic in Germany. His working group is member of the priority area “Interdisciplinary Public Policy” at JGU Mainz.

Gunnar Otte has been a member of the Academy of Sociology since its foundation in 2017 and is currently a member of the AS Board.

Natascha Nisic has been a professor at JGU Mainz since 2020, specializing in economic and labor market sociology as well as quantitative empirical methods. She earned her doctorate from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 2009. From 2008 to 2012, she was a senior researcher at the Institute of Employment Research in Nuremberg. She held a junior professorship in Economic Sociology at Hamburg University from 2012 to 2017, followed by a professorship in Socioeconomics of the Household at the University of Paderborn until 2020.

Her research examines the intersection of economic, labor market, and family sociology, focusing on topics such as regional occupational mobility within partnerships, the demand for domestic and care services, and wage mechanisms in care work. In her research, she follows the principles of analytical-empirical sociology, using advanced causal analysis methods, including panel and multilevel models and factorial surveys. Natascha Nisic has published widely in leading academic journals and is member of various academic committees, including, since its founding in 2017, the Academy of Sociology.
